Got a call from a guy near Shiells Park in Fillmore. Someone broke into his 2010 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class overnight and grabbed his keys off the center console. Car was still there, but he knew whoever had those keys could come back.

The CL-Class uses the NEC chip protocol on this generation, so the process is a full key reset: wipe every previously programmed key from the EIS memory, then register the new remote head key as the only one the car will recognize. Programmed two new keys in the same session so he'd have a spare.
Once the old keys were erased, they were just plastic. They could turn the ignition barrel all day and the immobilizer would reject them every time. I walked him through the lock, unlock, trunk, and panic buttons, verified the transponder handshake on both keys, and cycled the steering lock a few times to make sure the EIS was solid.
He asked what the dealer quoted him on the phone. I didn't catch the exact number but he said something like "three times what you just charged." He was already buckling the car seat back in before I finished packing up.
