Got a call from a guy over in Oxnard Shores who had been sitting on a one-key situation for months. His 2014 SL 550 came with two keys when he bought it, and one went through the wash. He kept meaning to get a spare made but life happened.
Then the remaining IYZ-3312 started acting up. Short range on the lock and unlock, Keyless-Go not picking up the fob on the door handle, and once in a while a "Key not recognized" message in the cluster. He swapped the CR2025 twice thinking that was it.
I pulled the fob apart on his driveway. The battery was fine. The issue was corrosion creeping onto one of the board contacts inside the remote head, right near where the 5WK47283 transponder module sits. Cleaned the contact, reseated everything, tested range from 30 feet. Worked clean.
Then we did the real job: cut and programmed a second key so he would stop living on the edge. Connected to the OBD port, talked to the EIS/EZS module (N73 board on this generation), wrote the new key, and verified both keys cycled through start, lock, unlock, trunk, and panic.
He asked what the dealer quoted him. I just told him to be glad he did not find out. He was back to two working keys in about 35 minutes, standing in his own driveway the whole time.
