Got a call around 7am from a woman near Skofield Park in Santa Barbara. She worked temp jobs through an agency and had to be on a job site by 8. Her 2001 Eclipse GS was sitting in the lot with a cracked remote head key, blade wobbling in the shell like a loose tooth. She could not get it to turn the ignition anymore.
I was at her lot in about 20 minutes. The key was beat. The plastic housing had split along the seam and the blade had shifted just enough that it would go into the cylinder but not engage the wafers right. The transponder board inside was still good, though.
I decoded the locks with my MIT11 Lishi tool, cut a fresh blade to code, and moved her original ID46 chip and board into a new shell. Then I ran the key through the ignition, confirmed the immobilizer picked up the transponder signal, and started the car. Hands-on time was about 25 minutes.
She sat in the driver's seat, turned it over twice more like she was testing me, then just nodded and drove off. Made it to her site on time.
The dealer would have wanted the car towed in and probably held it most of the day. She did not have that kind of time or budget.
