2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Scam locksmiths follow a pattern: a low number on the phone, a much higher bill once you're stuck and out of options. A real shop gives you an honest estimate for your specific vehicle before anyone shows up, explains what the job actually involves, and has a verifiable name, license, and reviews you can read before you commit.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. A correctly programmed transponder key for the 2003 Eclipse communicates with the immobilizer the same way the factory key does. Engine starts, no warning lights, no security fuss. I test every key in the ignition on site before I hand it over. The failure mode I've seen with cut-rate jobs is a key that cranks the car but won't fire, or one that starts it once and then stops being recognized.

Q: My 2003 Eclipse cranks fine but won't start. Could it be the transponder key?

That's the classic symptom when the immobilizer isn't seeing the key. Cranks strong, no fire, security light may stay on or flash after you release the key. On a 2003 Eclipse, a few things cause this: a damaged chip inside the key head, a worn or cracked key that broke the chip, a failing immobilizer antenna ring around the ignition barrel, or, in some cases, a key that was never programmed correctly to begin with.

Q: I bought a replacement key blank online. Can you just program it?

Depends on the blank. The 2003 Eclipse needs a specific transponder blank that matches the immobilizer in that car. A lot of the generic blanks sold online carry the wrong transponder type, and no amount of programming fixes a mismatched chip. If you've already bought one, bring it. I can tell you right away whether it's usable or not. If it's wrong, I have the correct blank in the van.

2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked near the brewery end of the Funk Zone when she called. Her 2003 Eclipse had been sitting in a lot and her only key had snapped at the bow, the plastic head, clean off. The blade was still in her pocket but the chip inside the broken head was cracked. Car would crank, wouldn't start. She knew exactly what it was.

She had her VIN ready when she called, which already put her ahead of most people. I had the right blank pulled before I got there.

I decoded the blade she handed me, cut a new one to match, transferred the transponder registration using my programmer, and tested it in the ignition while she watched. Engine fired on the first turn. The whole job ran under twenty minutes from the time I pulled up.

She mentioned she had already called the dealer out of habit. They told her three to five days for a key order and she would have to tow the car in. She did not end up needing any of that.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Mitsubishi vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz holds a California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services locksmith license and carries full insurance. For the 2003 Eclipse specifically, the transponder system requires the right programmer and the correct key blank to do the job properly. We carry both. You can verify the license number, check reviews, and confirm we're a real business before you call. Any legitimate automotive locksmith should be able to hand you that info without hesitation.
