2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Friday night near Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, a couple had been out bowling and came back to a 2004 Eclipse that just sat there. Remote did nothing, key felt loose in their hand, and they could see the plastic split running through the head.
They figured they'd leave the car in the lot and deal with it over the weekend. Then one of them searched "Mitsubishi locksmith" and called me.
I was about 15 minutes out. Already had the right MIT3 transponder blank stocked, part number 692564, ID46 chip ready to go. When I got there, I could see the problem right away. Their original key shell had cracked along the seam and the blade was wobbling in the housing. The transponder chip inside was still perfectly fine.
I cut a fresh MIT3 blade to match the original, moved the ID46 chip into the new shell, and programmed the immobilizer through OBD using my diagnostic tool. The ECU on these 3G Eclipses communicates through the Mitsubishi MUT protocol, so pin code extraction and transponder registration is all done at the dash, no pulling panels.
Car started on the first turn. They both just stood there for a second like they were waiting for a catch.
They drove home that Friday night instead of leaving their Eclipse in a bowling alley parking lot all weekend. A dealer would have meant towing it, waiting until Monday, and paying way more for the same result.
