2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you're not one of those bait-and-switch locksmiths?

The pattern with scam operations is consistent: a low number gets quoted on the phone, then the price multiplies once they're on-site and you feel stuck. It happens with car key calls more than almost any other locksmith job because the customer is already stressed.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like my original?

Yes. A properly programmed transponder key for your 2006 Eclipse communicates with the immobilizer the same way the original does. The engine starts, and it keeps starting. I test every key on the spot before the job is closed out. One thing worth noting: the 2006 Eclipse is a turn-key ignition vehicle. The key itself handles starting.

Q: I bought a replacement key blank online. Can you just program it, or do I need to get the blank from you?

Bring it and I'll take a look, but I won't promise it'll work until I see it. The 2006 Eclipse uses a specific transponder chip, and not every blank sold online actually contains the right one, even when the listing says it's compatible. Some are mislabeled. Some have the right chip but poor-quality construction that causes intermittent reads. If the blank checks out, I can cut and program it. If it doesn't, I carry stock that will.

Q: My 2006 Eclipse starts fine but then stalls a few seconds later. Is this a key or immobilizer problem?

On a transponder key vehicle, a starts-then-stalls pattern can point to the immobilizer not fully accepting the key after ignition. It reads the chip just long enough to crank, then drops the authorization before the engine stabilizes. It can also be caused by a damaged transponder in a worn key, where the chip reads inconsistently depending on exactly how the key sits in the cylinder.

2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy off Hollister Avenue on the Westside called me on a weekday afternoon. His 2006 Eclipse key was fighting him every time he tried to pull it out of the ignition. It would turn, it would start, but extracting it had become a two-handed operation. He could feel the blade flexing. He wasn't wrong to stop forcing it.

I met him where he was parked. The blade had rounded edges from years of use and the ignition wafers were grabbing it on the way out. Classic wear pattern on these third-gen cars. I decoded the lock from the door cylinder, which still had clean wafer contact, then cut a fresh blade to match and programmed the transponder through the OBD port. One cycle, clean read, key accepted.

Before I handed it back, I cycled it through the ignition several times to confirm it turned and released the way a new key should. No hesitation, no grab. That was it.

He mentioned he'd looked into going to the dealer. Multi-day wait, tow because he was nervous about driving it further, and a bill that would have hurt. He got it handled on the spot, in his own parking spot, for a fraction of what they wanted.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Mitsubishi vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS License LCO#6792) and carries full insurance. We also hold NASTF Vehicle Security Professional certification, which gives us authorized access to the security data needed to program keys on vehicles like your 2006 Eclipse. Not every locksmith carries that credential, and on immobilizer-equipped vehicles it matters.
