Got a call from someone near Hillcrest Center for the Arts in Thousand Oaks. His 1999 Bravada remote had quit on him about a month back, and he'd been manually locking and unlocking ever since. Said he called the dealer first, got told the part was discontinued and they'd have to look into sourcing one. That was three weeks ago. No callback.
He found a replacement KOBUT1BT online but couldn't get it to pair. Tried the door lock cycling method he read about on a GM truck forum. Nothing. Tried it again with the key in accessory. Still nothing.
Here's what was going on. The 1999 Bravada uses the older GM remote programming procedure where you need to jump pins in the OBD-II connector to put the body control module into learn mode. It is not an ignition-cycle trick. The BCM on these second-gen Bravadas (shared platform with the GMT330 S-10 Blazer) listens for the remote signal only after you ground the right pin. Without that step, you can click the fob all day.
I jumped the pins, pressed lock and unlock on his new remote, heard the door lock actuators cycle to confirm, and it was paired. Swapped the CR2032 he'd installed for a fresh one from my stock just to be safe, then tested range from about 40 feet out. All four buttons responded clean.
Whole thing took maybe 20 minutes, and he'd been waiting on the dealer for almost a month.
