2003 Oldsmobile Bravada
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Can you wipe a lost or stolen fob so it can't be used on my Bravada anymore?

Yes. When we do a security reset on the vehicle, the previously registered remotes get cleared out and only the fobs you authorize get added back. A lost or stolen fob won't unlock the doors through the remote system after that. Worth doing if a fob went missing and you're not sure where it ended up.

Q: My 2003 Bravada uses a separate key and fob. Is there an emergency blade inside the fob?

No, not on this setup. The Bravada remote from this generation is a standalone fob, not a flip or switchblade design with a hidden blade inside. The key blade is separate entirely. If you lose the physical key but still have the fob, you can unlock the doors remotely but you won't be able to start the car. You need both pieces.

Q: My Bravada remote only works when I hold it really close to the door. Is the fob dying?

Short range like that almost always points to a weak CR2032 before anything else. These fobs from this era can lose range noticeably before the battery dies completely, so the fob still works but only at a few inches instead of across a parking lot. Swap the battery first. If range stays bad after a fresh CR2032 is seated correctly, then you are looking at the fob itself.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2003 Bravada. Can I program it myself?

Vehicles from this generation often have an onboard programming sequence that does not require a scan tool, as long as you still have at least one working fob to start the process. The sequence involves the ignition and existing remotes in a specific order. If you have zero working fobs, that self-programming route is closed and you need someone with the right equipment to get back in.

2003 Oldsmobile Bravada Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy over in Mar Vista, Oxnard. His 2003 Bravada remote had been getting flaky for weeks, then one morning it just stopped. No response from any button. He figured the whole fob was dead and had already looked up dealer quotes before he called me.

I asked him the usual question first: when did you last change the battery. He went quiet for a second, then said never. This was the original fob. The vehicle had been in his family since it was new.

I came out to him. Popped the fob open on his hood, and the CR2032 inside was so far gone it had a faint white crust on the edge of the contact. The fob housing was fine, the buttons were fine, the board looked clean. Swapped in a fresh CR2032, snapped it back together.

Lock button. Click. Unlock. Click. Third button. Click. All three working, right there on the street.

He stood there for a moment and said he had been ready to spend a lot more than that. The dealer quote he mentioned was not a small number. What he actually paid me was a fraction of what they wanted, and I was at his driveway inside twenty minutes.

The car had never needed towing. The fob had never needed replacing. Just a battery that had twenty years on it and finally gave up.

Oldsmobile Bravada Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to handle all-keys-lost on my 2003 Bravada?▼

Call a mobile locksmith before you call the dealer and definitely before you call a tow truck. Dealer all-keys-lost jobs on older GM trucks and SUVs from this era involve diagnostic equipment, and by the time you add a tow and dealer labor, you are looking at a number that hurts. I come to your location in Mar Vista or anywhere in Oxnard, sort it out on site, and the price I quote on the phone is what you pay.
