Got a call from a guy near Ventura River Preserve who was having one of those mornings. His 2001 Bravada remote had been dead for weeks, so he had been manually locking and unlocking at the doors. Then that morning the truck cranked, turned over strong, and just would not start. Security light flashing on the dash.
He thought the remote dying caused the no-start. It didn't. Two separate problems happening at the same time.
I pulled up and started with the easy one. Cracked open the KOBUT1BT, and the CR2032 inside had corroded just enough to kill the signal. New battery, cleaned the contacts on the board, and all four buttons came back to life. Lock, unlock, panic, hatch release. Done.
The no-start was the Passlock II system. The resistive sensor in the ignition lock cylinder was sending the wrong value to the body control module. Classic GM issue on these second-gen Bravadas. I ran a Passlock relearn, which means turning the key to "on," waiting out the ten-minute security timer while the light blinks, cycling the ignition off and back, and repeating that sequence three times. Thirty minutes of sitting there watching a light blink.
He stood next to the truck the whole time, arms crossed, watching the security light like it owed him money.
Fired right up on the final cycle. Both problems handled on site, and he kept the rest of his day.
