2000 Oldsmobile Bravada
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long should a replacement remote last on a 2000 Bravada?

A long time, realistically. The programming itself does not wear out. What wears out are the rubber button pads and the CR2032 inside. On a fob this age, the button contacts are also something to watch: the carbon contact pads behind the buttons wear thin after years of use and the buttons start needing harder presses before they eventually stop registering. That's a rebuild, not a reprogramming.

Q: What if the new remote stops working a few weeks after you program it?

Call us. We warranty our work. But to give you the honest version: if a properly programmed remote drops out after a few weeks, the remote is usually not the problem. On a 2000 Bravada, a weak vehicle battery causes the body control module to lose its settings, which can wipe paired remotes. If you notice the car is slow to crank or the interior lights dim when you start it, check the battery before anything else.

Q: Can I program a replacement remote for the 2000 Bravada myself at home?

Yes, actually. This generation has an onboard programming sequence that works without any special tools. It involves cycling the door locks and ignition in a specific order to put the vehicle into programming mode, then pressing a button on each remote you want to register. The catch is the sequence has to be done correctly, and the vehicle exits programming mode fast if you take too long between steps.

Q: My Bravada starts fine but the remote locks and unlocks stopped working completely. Is the receiver bad?

Not necessarily. On this generation, the remote receiver is integrated with the body control module, so a failed receiver is not a standalone swap. But before going down that road, check the basics: the fob battery, the contact clips inside the fob, and whether the vehicle battery is healthy. A low vehicle battery can make the remote system go quiet while leaving the ignition completely unaffected.

2000 Oldsmobile Bravada Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from someone up in the Hillsides in Ventura on a Saturday afternoon. She had one key left for her 2000 Bravada, the remote had been flaky for months, and that morning it stopped responding entirely. Dealer was closed. She'd already tried a new battery from a gas station and nothing changed.

I pulled up with the van and she handed me the fob right away. The battery she'd put in was the right size, but the positive contact inside was barely making connection. A little corrosion, a little flex in the clip. Cleaned the contacts, reseated the battery properly, and it woke right up.

That fixed the remote. But we still had the bigger issue: she was down to one key blade, and that one had a crack near the bow. I cut her a replacement on site, synced everything up, and walked the buttons before I left.

The dealer would have been Monday at the earliest, and that's before factoring in the appointment wait. She paid a fraction of what they quoted her last time she asked about a spare.

Oldsmobile Bravada Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do you use OEM or aftermarket remotes for the 2000 Bravada?▼

We use OEM-spec blanks that match the factory FCC ID on the fob and are keyed to the correct frequency and button layout for this vehicle. On a remote this age, using a verified blank matters because cheap off-spec fobs can pair inconsistently or drop out after a few weeks. We stock what works for this generation so there are no compatibility surprises on the driveway.
