2002 Oldsmobile Bravada
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Do I need to know my fob's FCC ID to get a replacement?

No. If your original fob is lost, that information goes with it and that is fine. The year, make, and model get me to the correct remote for your vehicle. The factory FCC ID on the fob is printed there for regulatory identification, not something you need to hand me before I can help you.

Q: I lost all my keys to my 2002 Bravada. Can you still make a new one?

Yes, all-keys-lost is a regular job on these. I come to the vehicle, decode or pull the key code from the lock cylinder, and cut a working key blade on site. For the remote, I program the replacement fob through the OBD port so the vehicle recognizes it. No tow, no dealer, no leaving your car somewhere and waiting.

Q: My Bravada starts fine but the remote will not lock or unlock from more than a few feet away. Is the fob failing?

Short range on these fobs is almost always a battery or contact issue before it is a fob failure. The CR2032 can test at acceptable voltage on a cheap meter but still not have enough output to drive the transmitter at full power. Try a name-brand cell, not a generic one from a discount bin. If range is still weak after that, open the housing and look at the contact tabs.

Q: Can I program a replacement Bravada fob myself at home?

These early 2000s GM remotes do have an onboard programming sequence that works when you already have at least one working key and fob. The sequence involves cycling the door lock and the ignition in a specific order to put the vehicle into programming mode. If you search the forums you will find the steps.

2002 Oldsmobile Bravada Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from someone in East Ventura on a Tuesday morning. She had a 2002 Bravada and her fob had just stopped working cold. No warning, no gradual range loss. Just done.

She had already bought a CR2032 from the drug store on the way home the night before and swapped it herself. Still nothing. She figured the fob was dead and started mentally budgeting a dealer trip.

I pulled up to her place, took a look at the fob before I did anything else. The battery was correct. But when I opened the housing, the previous battery had been wedged in at an angle, probably for a while, and the positive contact tab had a noticeable lean to it. Not touching the battery face cleanly.

I reset the contact, seated a fresh CR2032 correctly, and tested. Remote came right back. Lock, unlock, all three buttons working at normal range from the driveway.

She had already called the dealer before she called me. They told her to come in, leave the car, and they would look at it. I did the whole thing in her driveway in about fifteen minutes. Whatever they would have charged her, she saved most of it. That part she was pretty happy about.

Oldsmobile Bravada Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What battery does the 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada key fob take?▼

CR2032. It is one of the most common fob batteries out there, available at any pharmacy, hardware store, or big box retailer. When I replace or program a fob for a Bravada, I include a fresh battery so you are not starting off with whatever charge is left on a battery that has been sitting. The CR2032 is a standard coin cell, and swapping it is something you can do at home with just a flathead to pop the housing.
