Out near Rincon Beach Park in Ventura, a guy flagged me down in a parking area off the highway. His 2002 Bravada was sitting there running fine that morning, then after a quick stop it just cranked and cranked. SECURITY light glowing solid on the dash. No start.
He had already tried the ten-minute relearn on his own. Turn to ON, wait for the SECURITY light to go off, turn off, repeat three times. He read it on a Bravada forum. Problem was he kept turning the key all the way to START during one of the cycles, which resets the whole sequence. So he'd been sitting there for almost an hour doing loops that never finished.
I walked him through it the right way while I checked his key blade. The PK3 transponder pellet in the head was intact, resistance read correct through the TheftLock module on the body control module (BCM). His key was fine. The issue was the passlock sensor inside the ignition cylinder housing, GM part 26049532, which is a known wear point on these second-gen Bravadas. The sensor signal was drifting, and the BCM was rejecting the start request.
Reprogrammed the BCM to accept the new sensor range, confirmed the transponder handshake, and tested five cold starts in a row. He sat on the tailgate watching the ocean the whole time.
