Got a call from a guy out near Lake Casitas Recreation Area in Ojai. He was at a winery tasting room early morning, there for a distributor meeting, and his 2006 Porsche Cayman would not start. The HU66 blade turned the ignition just fine, dash lit up, starter cranked, but the engine refused to catch. Classic immobilizer rejection.
He had already called the Porsche dealer. Earliest appointment was the following week. That was not going to work. He had meetings all day.
I was about 40 minutes out. When I got there, the Cayman was sitting in a gravel lot with the hood still warm from him trying it over and over. I pulled the flip key apart on my toolbox lid. The ID46 chip's antenna coil had a hairline crack, the kind you only see when you know what you're looking for. That coil is how the transponder talks to the ring antenna around the ignition barrel. Crack it, and the signal drops in and out depending on temperature and luck.
I used my Smart Pro to pull the immobilizer PIN through OBD, wrote a fresh transponder code to match the car's Siemens VDO module, and reassembled his KR55WK45022 remote flip key. Tested the remote lock, unlock, and trunk buttons from 30 feet. All clean.
He made his meetings on time. The whole thing took less than an hour, right there in the same gravel lot where the car had been sitting dead.
