2012 Porsche Cayman
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2012 Porsche Cayman Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Downtown Carpinteria reached out on a Saturday. He collects Porsches, keeps them in a private garage, and had always assumed key work on a Porsche was dealer-only territory. Not because he had ever tested that assumption. Just because he had been told that once, years ago, and never questioned it.

His 2012 Cayman needed a second key. He had one working fob and wanted a spare before he lost it and ended up in a real situation. He called the dealer first. They told him the key had to be ordered, pre-cut to VIN, and that he would be looking at a wait plus a weekday shop visit for programming. He was not thrilled about either part.

I met him at the garage that afternoon. The Cayman was sitting next to a couple of other cars, all of them clean. He watched the whole job. I worked through the OBD port with my diagnostic equipment, read the vehicle's security system, and registered the new fob to the car. Cut the blade on site. Ran through all five buttons, tested the door handle touch unlock on both sides, confirmed the car recognized the new key at the start button, and handed it to him.

He asked how long I had been doing Porsches. I told him long enough to keep the right equipment in the van. He said he would have called me months ago if he had known this was an option. I told him that was basically the whole reason I run a mobile operation in the first place.

He saved a good chunk over what the dealer quoted, and he did not lose a weekday to a service appointment.
