2008 Porsche Cayman Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Matilija, near the edges of Ojai where the roads get quiet and the cell signal gets spotty, I got a call from a retired professor who was staying at an orthopedic rehab center recovering from knee replacement surgery.
His aide was off that day. He couldn't drive anything else, and getting to a Porsche dealer was not a realistic option for a man in a brace with no one to take him.
His 2008 Cayman had one flip key, and it had gotten to the point where the blade was fighting the ignition on every start. He described it as having to wiggle and push before it would turn. That's a worn blade talking. The ignition wafers were reading a key that no longer matched what it used to be.
I drove out to the rehab center that morning. His car was in the lot, exactly where he said it would be. I decoded the ignition, verified the wear pattern, and cut a fresh blade to match what the lock actually needed. Then I rebuilt everything into a new flip shell, transferred his existing transponder chip, programmed the remote functions, and ran three cold starts in the lot before I called it done.
He watched from a chair near the entrance, leg elevated. When I brought the key back over, he turned it himself, once, clean. That was the moment.
He'd called the dealer before he called me. The dealer quoted him a number that made his eyes go wide, plus a wait on parts, plus the logistical impossibility of getting the car there in the first place. He saved a good chunk, but honestly the bigger thing was that he never had to leave.
