2018 Ram 1500 Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A building superintendent up in Camarillo Heights called me on a Tuesday afternoon. He managed an apartment complex, kept a 2018 Ram 1500 as his work truck, and had already paid another locksmith to fix a key problem.
The fob would start the truck, but every single button on the remote was dead. Lock, unlock, all of it. He had been using the key like a plain ignition key for two weeks, walking around the truck to do everything manually, just waiting for somebody to actually fix it.
He found me through Google Guaranteed. First thing he did was ask for my license number. I gave it to him right there on the call, and he looked it up on the California BSIS website before he let me finish my sentence. That is exactly what somebody should do, and I told him so.
When I got there, it was clear what had happened. The previous tech had gotten the transponder side to talk to the immobilizer but never completed the remote registration. The gateway access was either skipped or failed, and the button functions never paired. The whole remote side was just sitting there, unrecognized.
I connected my tool, worked through the gateway, and ran a full registration so both the transponder and the remote functions came up together. Walked every button. Lock worked. Unlock worked. All five buttons confirmed. Truck started clean.
He said the amount I charged was less than half of what the first guy took. I did not say much about that. The truck was just fixed, the way it should have been the first time.
