2015 Subaru Crosstrek Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Most people in Montecito who lose their only Subaru key don't lose it all at once. They lose it in stages. One day the blade wobbles. Then it sticks in the door. Then it snaps.
That's exactly what happened to a woman I met over off Coast Village Road. She'd bought her 2015 Crosstrek used, came with one key, always meant to get a spare. Three years later the blade pivot cracked, and when she went to unlock her door that morning, the blade broke off clean. Remote head in one hand. Blade stuck in the lock. Zero working keys.
She called me instead of a tow truck, which was the right call.
I extracted the stuck blade from the lock cylinder first, then decoded the cut from the lock itself. The fob housing was cracked and the pivot was gone, but the electronics inside were still alive. I transferred the internals into a new shell, verified the fob was communicating correctly, and cut two new blades to match the decoded lock.
She went from zero keys to two working units in under 45 minutes, on her driveway, without towing the car anywhere. The dealer had already been called and quoted a number that made her pause. She didn't need to hear the comparison twice.
If you've got the broken pieces, bring them. Even a cracked fob with a snapped blade can save you from the longer, more expensive all-keys-lost road.
