Out past the Lang Ranch neighborhood in Thousand Oaks, there is a campground access road where cell service drops to nothing. That is where a 2018 Toyota Mirai owner lost his only smart key somewhere between the tent and the fire ring.
Push-to-start, all keys lost. No emergency blade is going to start a Mirai. The car needs to see a registered HYQ14FBA fob over the 312 MHz link before the power button does anything. Without one, the dash stays dark.
He walked to the camp host, borrowed a phone, and reached me. I drove out with my ACDP and a blank fob.
The Mirai runs Toyota's H-generation immobilizer, same family as the Crown and some late Lexus models. The smart ECU, part 89990-series on these, stores the encryption data. I pulled a backup read off the smart box through the OBD port first, then ran the all-keys-lost registration sequence. Once the new fob's AG transponder was written and synced, I tested all four buttons, both front door handle sensors, the trunk release, and the push-button start from cold.

He sat in the driver seat for a second and just held the new fob in his hand like it might disappear too. I get it. When the only key is gone, the car might as well be a sculpture.
Whole job took about 40 minutes. Way less than the dealer route plus a flatbed out of the hills.
