Saturday evening in Fillmore, Central Avenue downtown area. A couple walked out after dinner and the Volvo sat there dead to the fob. No click, no flash, nothing. They figured the car was done for the weekend.
One of them searched "Volvo locksmith" and called me. I was about 14 minutes out.
Their 2005 C70 runs the LQNP2T-APU remote flip key, 5-button layout. I carry the correct fob shells, NE66 blade blanks, and CR2032 cells in labeled drawers behind my seat. Not ordered when you call. Already there.
Popped the fob open on the hood. The CR2032 was completely flat, probably original or close to it. Swapped it, then resynced the remote to the CEM using my diagnostic tools. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic, and the fifth button all responded clean. Ignition turned over on the first try because the transponder chip in the key head was fine the whole time. The remote side was the only thing down.
They both just stood there for a second when it started. That quiet relief where nobody says much.
They drove home that night instead of leaving a convertible in a lot all weekend. When everything is stocked and labeled, a 9 PM Saturday call in Fillmore gets the same result as a Tuesday morning appointment.
