Out in Lemonwood, in Oxnard, a guy called me about his 2013 Volvo C70. He'd had another locksmith cut and program a replacement key a week earlier. It worked for five days, then started failing at random. Mornings it was fine. Evenings the car would crank but not catch, or it'd throw a key-not-detected warning and just sit there.

I programmed a new fob with the correct transponder matched to his vehicle, put a fresh CR2450 in, and walked every function: both door handles, the lock and unlock confirmation, the other buttons, and the start. Clean all the way through.

He asked what the dealer had quoted him when this started. I told him I had no idea. He said it was a lot. I didn't ask for the number. The job was done, parked in his driveway, and I was packing up by the time that conversation ended.
