I got the call from a guy near Hollywood Beach, not far from the water. He had already paid another locksmith to replace his key on his 2010 Volvo C70, and the car still would not start. The other locksmith had gone straight to OBD without the bench step. The module never had the data it needed to accept the new key.
I pulled the module, did the bench read, generated the key data, wrote it back, reinstalled everything, and ran the OBD sequence to completion. Three consecutive start tests, all clean. I walked him through what the programmer screen was showing so he could see the key was registered, not just trust my word for it.
He had already paid someone else for a job that did not work. What I charged him was a fraction of what the dealer wanted, and the car actually started this time. He did not say much. He just started it a fourth time on his own, I think to make sure it was real.
