Got a call from a woman near the Santa Paula Theater Center who said her C70 convertible wouldn't recognize her key anymore. She'd been driving it fine that morning, parked for a few hours, came back, and the key turned in the ignition but the engine cranked and quit. Her original key's ID48 transponder was still being read, but the CEM had flagged a communication fault. Registered a fresh LQNP2T-APU fob, cut the blade to match the HU101 keyway, and programmed the new transponder through the CEM's security access sequence.
Then the part I never skip. Lock, unlock, trunk, panic, fold-out blade in the ignition, three consecutive starts. Walked about 30 feet away and tested remote range from every angle around the car.
She stood there watching me pace around her convertible in the parking lot clicking buttons like I was lost. When everything checked out, she just nodded and said "that's it?" That's it.
She kept the original key as a backup, and I told her to swap its CR2032 so the buttons stay alive. Whole thing was a fraction of what the dealer wanted, and she drove home the same afternoon.
