2001 Lexus RX Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a medical building garage in Downtown Lemon Grove on a Tuesday afternoon. The person on the phone was a doctor, calling between patients. Her remote head key had cracked where the blade meets the fob housing. She could feel it flexing every time she turned the ignition. Not broken yet, but close.
She couldn't leave. She had a waiting room. She couldn't tow a car she still needed that evening. The dealer option meant a phone transfer chain, an appointment days out, probably a tow bill, and sitting in a service lounge for half a day. None of that was going to happen on a Tuesday afternoon with a full patient schedule.
I drove to the garage. Decoded the lock, cut a fresh blade, programmed the replacement remote head key through the OBD port, and tested every function before I left, remote lock, unlock, the trunk release, ignition start. The whole job was done in about 30 minutes.
She walked to her car after her last patient with two working keys. Her car never left the garage. That part still gets me, the dealer route on this vehicle would have required towing a car that was parked and completely drivable.
