2025 Lexus RX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Fletcher Cove has a parking area right above the beach access, and that's where I met a guy who had been doing everything right for weeks and still couldn't figure out why his 2025 RX kept giving him grief.
He'd replaced the CR2032 himself. Clean swap, correct battery, seated properly. The fob worked fine for about a day, then went back to randomly throwing a key-not-detected warning on the dash when he walked up to the driver door. Touch unlock would work on the passenger side but not always the driver side. Start button would see the key sometimes and not others.
He had already been to the dealer. They told him the fob tested okay and sent him home.
I got the call and drove down to Fletcher Cove. He met me in the lot, and we started by ruling things out. The fob signal was actually fine at close range. The issue was isolating to the driver door handle area, not the key itself. The handle's touch sensor was reading inconsistently, not the fob. That's a detail that gets missed when a shop runs a quick key test and calls it a day.
We confirmed the second fob he had worked the same way, same quirk, same door. That told the story. A failing key doesn't pick one door and leave the other alone.
I documented everything for him so he had something concrete to take back to the dealer for the actual repair. He was relieved to know his key was fine and he wasn't looking at a replacement fob charge on top of a door handle repair.
That's the job sometimes. Not cutting a key, not programming anything. Just working through it correctly and giving someone an answer they can act on.
