2018 Lexus RX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked near the Town Center in Downtown Santee on a Saturday evening when the call came in. A couple had walked out after seeing a movie and the RX was just sitting there, not responding to the fob.
No door unlock, no reaction from the handle sensors, nothing. They figured it was a dead key battery and they were right, but by the time they tried the emergency insert blade they realized they had no idea where the door cylinder was hidden under the handle cover. So they called me instead of sleeping on it.
I was there in about ten minutes. The fob battery was in fact flat. Swapped in a fresh CR1632, seated it properly, confirmed the contacts were clean. Fob came back right away. Then I did what I always do before I pack up: walked every function. Tested both front door handles for touch unlock, ran all four buttons, made sure the vehicle recognized the key on the start button. Everything checked out.
The part that stuck with me was how close they came to leaving an RX in a parking lot all weekend over a battery. They had the emergency key with them the whole time and never used it. I showed them where the hidden cylinder sits so they would know for next time.
They drove home that night. The dealer conversation never even came up.
