2016 Lexus RX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was already in the CSUSM Area on a Tuesday when the call came in from a parking lot near the orthodontist off Twin Oaks Valley Road. The owner had a 2016 RX and one working smart key, except it had stopped working entirely sometime between drop-off and pickup. No warning, no gradual fade. Just done.
She had already called the dealer. They told her the next available appointment was Thursday, possibly Friday depending on parts. She had kids in the car and a schedule that does not bend around a four-day dealer window.
I pulled up while she was still on the phone with them.
The fob battery was original. Not just low, it was nearly reading zero on the meter. But a dead battery alone usually does not explain a full system refusal on these, so I connected the diagnostic equipment anyway and checked the immobilizer side before touching anything else. Everything on the vehicle looked clean. No stored faults related to the security system.
Replaced the battery, reseated it properly, ran through every function. Touch unlock on both front handles, lock button, the back of the fob, all of it. The fob came back completely.
She did not need a new key at all. She needed someone who checked before they sold.
The dealer visit would have been Thursday at the earliest, a tow if the car could not be driven, and a bill that reflected none of that diagnostic work. She paid a fraction of what they wanted, and she was back on her schedule before school pickup.
