2010 Lexus RX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman in Ocean View Hills called me on a Tuesday morning. Her 2010 RX had been sitting overnight and when she came out, the door handle would not respond to touch. She could still start the car by holding the fob directly against the start button, which told me the fob was alive, just barely.
She was parked on her street off the main stretch through Otay Mesa, so I was there in a reasonable amount of time. She had her VIN ready, which I appreciated. I already had her fob type pulled up from when she texted me the year and model.
I popped the fob open on the hood of my van. The CR1632 inside was original as far as I could tell, edges a little corroded, and the positive contact had a slight inward bend from what looked like a previous battery swap attempt with something too wide. The battery itself still had a reading but it was low enough that the vehicle was not getting a clean signal at the door handle range.
Fresh CR1632, contacts straightened and wiped down, fob closed back up. I walked every door, tested handle touch unlock on both sides, confirmed the start button was reading it cleanly without needing to hold the fob against anything, and ran through the lock and trunk release.
She said she had been about to call the dealer. She is glad she did not.
