2019 Lexus RX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2019 Lexus RX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

She called from the parking lot of a specialist's office near Lomas Santa Fe in Solana Beach. Her father had just finished an appointment and was in his wheelchair next to the car.

The 2019 RX wouldn't respond to anything. Start button, nothing. She held the fob directly against the button the way she'd seen people do in videos, nothing. It was past six in the evening and the dealer was already closed.

I told her I was on my way.

When I got there, the first thing I did was get the door open so her father could sit inside out of the evening air. Then I pulled the fob apart on the hood. The CR1632 had left a film of corrosion on the contact plate, the kind that forms slowly and then one day just cuts the signal entirely. The fob itself was the factory unit with the correct FCC ID, four buttons, all in order. The cell wasn't old enough to be dead by voltage, but the connection was gone.

I cleaned the contacts, seated a fresh CR1632, and tested all four buttons from the parking lot. Lock, unlock, the works. Then I connected to the OBD port to confirm the vehicle security system was reading the key cleanly, which it was. No registration work needed. The original fob came back.

From her call to engine running was under forty minutes. She got her father loaded and headed home without a second vehicle, without a rideshare, without transferring a wheelchair twice. That part stuck with me on the drive back.

The dealer would have had her wait until morning for an appointment, probably quoted a full replacement fob. This was a cleaning job and a battery. Done on site, for a fraction of what that appointment would have cost.
