I was already working in Oxnard on a Saturday when the call came in. A couple over near Hobson Park had walked out after dinner, hit the door handle, and nothing. Fob wasn't responding. No lock, no unlock, car just sitting there ignoring them like they were strangers.
They'd already tried the obvious: standing closer, pointing the fob differently, pressing harder. None of it. One of them searched for a BMW locksmith and found me about fifteen minutes out.
By the time I pulled up, they'd been standing there long enough to get philosophical about it. The fob was the factory four-button unit with a CR2450 inside. I popped it open and the battery was the original, which on a 2011 means it had been in there for years and was basically a formality at this point.
Fresh CR2450, checked the contact points, reseated everything. Then I walked through every function before saying a word: lock, unlock, the remaining buttons, and the emergency insert blade in the cylinder just to confirm the mechanical side was good. The car responded immediately.
No programming needed on this visit. Just the right battery, done right, tested fully. They asked what the dealer would have charged to look at it Monday. I told them to think about what they'd have spent on a tow plus a dealer diagnostic plus a weekend without the car, and that the number adds up fast. They nodded and drove home.
That's a Saturday night call in Hobson Park. Same result as a Tuesday morning shop appointment, without leaving the car anywhere.
