Over in Pierpont neighborhood in Ventura, a woman's 2017 X3 threw a yellow steering lock warning on the dash and would not crank. Just sat there. The iDrive cluster showed "Steering lock malfunction, drive moderately" even though the car was in park going nowhere.

I cleared the ELV fault, performed a steering lock sync, and verified function with her existing fob, FCC ID N5F-ID21A. The key was fine the whole time.

She drove home on the original steering lock and original key, for a fraction of what that dealer tow-and-replace route would have cost.
