A guy near Serra Cross/Grant Park called me on a Tuesday afternoon. He had his 2018 X3 parked in a residential garage off the hill and one working smart key. The whole thing took about 45 minutes. He never left the building. The dealer visit that would have eaten most of his afternoon was just gone from his calendar.
He asked me at the end why BMW makes it feel so complicated. I told him the security architecture on these is genuinely involved, but that doesn't mean the job has to take three days. It just needs the right tools and someone who works on these regularly.
