2005 Buick Park Avenue
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2005 Buick Park Avenue Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Parked on a side street in Downtown Oxnard, a guy called me on a Saturday afternoon because his 2005 Park Avenue wouldn't start. He had the key, the blade looked fine, and the battery in the car was strong. He'd been trying to start it for twenty minutes.

I asked him one question: had anyone cut him a new key recently? He said yeah, a week ago, at a hardware store kiosk. That was it.

The blade was cut correctly. The hardware store did their part. But the key head had a blank transponder chip in it that had never been programmed to his car. The immobilizer saw it, said no, and that was the end of the conversation every time he turned the key.

I connected my OBD programmer, enrolled the new key to the vehicle, and he started it on the first try. Took under half an hour total, on the street, no tow, no dealer appointment. He'd been one phone call away from the whole thing the day he had the blade cut.

The dealer, for context, wanted him to bring the car in on a flatbed since it wouldn't start on its own. That alone would have cost him before they even looked at the key.
