Got called to Fisherman's Wharf at the Harbor in Oxnard for a 2020 Cadillac XT6 that was completely bricked. The car was sitting at a paint shop after a respray. The shop had already called another locksmith to make a key, and that guy left mid-job when the body control module threw an immobilizer fault. Now the XT6 rejected everything. Push-to-start was dead. No crank, no communication, just "No Remote Detected" stuck on the driver info center.
That is the worst version of an all-keys-lost on these GM trucks. The BCM locks into a fault state after a botched programming attempt, and you cannot just retry from the OBD port. The module needs bench work.
I pulled the BCM, read the EEPROM with my ACDP, cleared the locked fault, and rebuilt the key registration from scratch. The HYQ2EB fob paired on the first clean attempt after the reset. Then I walked the car: passive entry on all four doors, liftgate button, push-to-start hot and cold, remote start from 30 feet away. Everything responded like nothing had happened.
Took about 90 minutes, which is longer than a normal key job. Most of that was the bench work on the module. I showed the paint shop guys what went wrong so they would know to flag it if another customer's keys went missing during a job.
The dealer alternative was a flatbed ride and a multi-day wait for way more money.
