2022 Cadillac XT6 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked near the Silver Strand beach access in Oxnard when the call came in. Guy had his 2022 XT6 sitting in a parking lot off Harbor Boulevard. His only fob had gone through the wash. Didn't realize it until he was pulling wet laundry out of the machine. The fob looked fine on the outside, but it was done.
He found me while sitting in a coffee shop nearby waiting for a tow he hadn't actually called yet. He was hoping there was another way.
I asked him to pull up the VIN from his insurance app, which took about two minutes. That was all I needed to confirm the key type and have the right fob ready before I left. I told him to stay where he was and that I was coming to him.
When I got there, we did ownership verification on the spot, which is standard and non-negotiable. Then I got to work. The all-keys-lost procedure on this vehicle goes through the OBD port with professional diagnostic equipment. The old fob, the one still sitting damp on his kitchen counter at home, gets erased from the system during that process. The new fob gets registered. Then I cut the emergency insert blade so it works in the door lock cylinder if he ever needs it.
The whole thing was done in the parking lot. He drove back to Silver Strand instead of waiting on a flatbed.
He mentioned the dealer later. He'd called them first, got put on hold twice, and was eventually told they couldn't see him until the following afternoon and he'd need a tow. That was just an afterthought by the time we were done.
