1996 Chrysler Cirrus
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long does it take to cut a replacement key once you are at my car?

For a 1996 Cirrus, it is a short job. I either decode the cut from one of your existing locks or pull the key code through other means, then cut the replacement on the spot. You are typically looking at well under thirty minutes of actual work at the vehicle. No waiting room, no parts order, no return visit.

Q: Can you make a replacement key faster than the dealer?

Yes, and by a wide margin on a car this age. A dealer would likely need to look up whether they even stock a blank for a mid-nineties Cirrus, then schedule shop time around newer vehicles. We arrive with the right blank and the tools to cut it on site. What might take a dealer a day or two of scheduling and parts sourcing takes us one visit, usually under an hour from the time I arrive.

Q: I only have one key for my 1996 Cirrus. Should I get a spare made before I lose it?

Yes, and sooner rather than later. A single key is a single point of failure. On a vehicle this age, the original key has decades of wear on it. If it breaks in the ignition or gets lost, getting a replacement cut from scratch is still very doable, but having a second key made while the original is in hand is easier and quicker.

Q: My key is worn and sometimes does not turn smoothly. Is that a key problem or a lock problem?

Could be either, or both. On a car from 1996, the ignition cylinder and the key have both been wearing against each other for a long time. A worn key that barely turns the lock may also be damaging the cylinder further every time it is used. Getting a fresh key cut to the correct specification often brings things back to life.

1996 Chrysler Cirrus Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman over in South Surfside, Port Hueneme. She had been out of town visiting family and her neighbor had borrowed the Cirrus to move some boxes while she was gone. He returned it, locked it, and left the only key inside on the seat. She got home to find her own car sitting in the driveway, locked, key visible through the window.

She had already called the dealer. They told her to have it towed in. For a locked door and a metal key.

I pulled up in about forty minutes. Got the door open without a mark on it, measured the key from the lock, and cut a replacement right there in the driveway. She was back inside the car before the afternoon got away from her. No tow, no appointment, no waiting.

The dealer route would have eaten most of her day and cost her a fraction more than she paid me. She just needed someone to show up.

Chrysler Cirrus Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What if I need a key for my Cirrus after hours or on the weekend?▼

Dealer service departments keep regular business hours, and a 1996 Cirrus is not exactly a priority ticket for them on a Friday afternoon. We work outside those hours. If you are locked out on a Saturday night in South Surfside or anywhere else in Port Hueneme, you do not have to wait until Monday. We come to you.
