Got a call from a guy in the Windsor North neighborhood in Oxnard. His 2000 Cirrus was sitting in the driveway and his only key had finally given up. The plastic bow had cracked months ago, and he'd been holding it together with electrical tape. That morning the tape shifted, the transponder chip inside moved just enough, and the SKIM module stopped seeing it. Dash showed the little key icon flashing, engine cranked but would not fire.
He called the dealer first. They told him to get the car towed in. He asked how much. They quoted him a number that made him keep looking.
I pulled the van into his driveway about an hour after his call. Pulled the old key apart on his hood and confirmed what I expected: the PCF7936 chip had shifted out of alignment inside the cracked head. The chip itself still had life in it.
I grabbed a fresh Y160-PT blank, used my VVDI2 to clone the transponder data onto a new PCF7936, then cut the blade on my Condor machine right there in the van. Slid the new key into the ignition, SKIM light came on for two seconds, went off, and the engine fired clean.
Whole thing took maybe 25 minutes. His car never left the driveway, and he paid a fraction of what the dealer wanted before the tow bill even entered the picture.
