I got a call from a guy in Oxnard Shores who'd moved into one of those homes right near the water. Gated street, tight access, the kind of place where getting a tow truck or a service vehicle in requires some back-and-forth with the HOA. The second part is the programming. The transponder chip in that key has to be enrolled to the car's immobilizer. You can have a perfectly cut key and the car will crank, act like it wants to start, and then shut right back down if the chip isn't right. I used my programmer to register the new key on site.
He watched the whole thing from his front step. When it started and stayed running, he just nodded like he'd expected it to work all along. I don't think he fully believed it until that moment.
The dealer had quoted him a wait time on top of the labor, and that was assuming he could get the car there. I was done and back in my van in under an hour. He paid a fraction of what they wanted, and the car never left the driveway.
