A tattoo artist near Grant Park in Ventura flagged me down about his 2009 Dodge Nitro. The FOBIK shell had split right along the seam where the buttons sit, and the housing was barely holding together with a piece of electrical tape.
He had already called a CDJR dealer. They told him he needed a full replacement key, cut and programmed, and quoted him a number that made him put it off for two weeks. What they did not mention is that the circuit board and transponder inside his OHT692427AA were working fine. He just needed a new shell and a clean blade.
I met him at his apartment breezeway with replacement shells and my Y159 Lishi. Decoded his driver door cylinder right there on the walkway, got an exact cut depth reading. Then I popped his old FOBIK open, pulled the board and battery contact plate, and seated everything into a fresh housing.
He stood there rolling a cigarette while I cut the new Y159 blade from the decode and tested it in the door and ignition. Then the boring part: lock, unlock, panic, hatch, checking wireless range from 30 feet out, verifying the SKIM accepted the transponder on start. Everything clean.
He kept the old cracked shell as a backup. Paid a fraction of what the dealer wanted for a job that took about 20 minutes and did not touch a single part that was not already broken.
