2008 Hyundai Azera Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a customer up near Montecito Peak Trail. She'd snapped her 2008 Azera key right at the bow, the plastic grip piece, while turning the ignition. The blade was still jammed in the cylinder and the transponder chip was stuck inside the broken shell on her keyring.
She had the pieces in a ziplock bag when I got there. Organized. She'd already texted me the VIN on the drive over, so I had the HY18R-PT blank prepped and the VVDI2 powered on before I even knocked on her window.
First thing was extracting the broken blade from the ignition. Came out clean, no damage to the wafers. Then I pulled the ID 60 transponder data off her broken key using the VVDI2 and cloned it onto the fresh blank. Cut the key by code from the VIN since the original blade was snapped and worn anyway. A code cut is more accurate than copying a ten-year-old worn key.
Tested the new key in the ignition. Engine fired on the first turn, immobilizer light went solid then off, just like it should. Tested the accessory positions, restart, everything clean.
She watched the whole thing from the passenger seat. When the engine turned over she just said "that's it?" and looked at the broken pieces in the bag like she'd been expecting a bigger ordeal. The dealer had quoted her a tow plus a wait measured in days. She was back on the road in about twenty minutes.
