I got a call out to La Conchita on a weekday morning. The owner of a 2011 Hyundai Azera had locked her fob inside the car. Not the backup key. The fob. She had the emergency insert key on a separate ring but had never actually tested it in the door cylinder, and it turned out the door lock cylinder had not been used in so long it was stiff and not turning cleanly. She was standing in the driveway, running late, and the car was just sitting there.
I got in through the door mechanically, no damage, which is standard. Then we dealt with the cylinder, worked it loose, and confirmed the insert key would turn it going forward. That part matters because the insert key is the backup plan when the fob battery dies completely, and if the cylinder has not moved in years it will feel broken even when it is not.
After that I checked the fob she had left inside. CR2032 was original, still reading voltage but low enough to cause range issues. Swapped it out, tested all four buttons at distance, walked both door handle touch sensors, and confirmed the push-button start was reading the fob before I closed anything up.
She asked what the dealer would have done. Probably towed it, charged a trip fee, and had her waiting a day or two for an appointment slot. She was back inside and on her way in well under an hour, for a fraction of what that route would have cost.
