Got a call at 7:45 in the morning from a woman near Lake Casitas Recreation Area in Ventura. She worked through a staffing agency, was sitting in the lot waiting for her daily assignment, and her 2013 Hyundai Azera had gone completely dark on her. Push button start, nothing. Fob buttons, nothing. She had until 8:30 to get to a job site or lose the placement entirely.
I pulled up in about 20 minutes. Used my HY18 Lishi to decode and get inside without marking up the door. Connected through the OBD port under the dash and pulled the immobilizer status. The original SY5HMFNA04 fob had a communication fault logged, the kind where the smart key antenna module on the Azera's SMK unit (part of the BCM, board 95480-3V600 on these) stops handshaking with the fob intermittently.
Programmed a new smart key, fresh CR2032, confirmed all four buttons, tested proximity unlock on both front handles and the trunk, ran push-to-start twice to make sure the HITAG 2 handshake was clean. About 25 minutes hands-on.
She pulled out of that lot with time to spare. Never even had to call the agency to explain.
The dealer route would have meant a tow, a wait for parts, and a bill that made the whole day's wages pointless. She paid a fraction of that and kept her placement.
