2012 Hyundai Azera Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a body shop in Midtown Ventura on a 2012 Hyundai Azera that had been sitting there for three days. A fender repair had wrapped up fine, but the shop had called another locksmith for a key, and that locksmith left the job unfinished after getting an error mid-sequence. The car wouldn't start. The shop was stuck.
When I pulled up, the situation was pretty clear. A failed programming attempt with a power interruption during the write sequence had put the vehicle security system into a fault state. The module was rejecting all new key registration attempts over the OBD port. The previous locksmith had told the shop the module was bad and that the car needed to go to the dealer. The shop called me before scheduling the flatbed.
I brought my bench programming tool for exactly this kind of recovery job. When OBD communication is blocked by a prior fault state, you work directly. I pulled the immobilizer module, read the data off the chip, cleared the fault, and rebuilt the key registration from scratch. No module replacement needed.
Once the system was clean, I registered the new four-button smart fob and confirmed all functions. The whole job took about 80 minutes, most of that on the module work and verification. The car started on the first clean attempt after the reset.
The body shop owner was relieved. He'd already warned his customer that a dealer trip might mean several days of waiting. That didn't happen. I packed up and the car drove out the same afternoon.
