2002 Hyundai Tiburon
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you're not a scam locksmith?

It's a fair question and Hyundai owners get targeted because key problems create pressure. The scam pattern is always the same: a low number over the phone, then a different number once they're already working on your car. Some people have been quoted one price and handed a bill several times higher with no warning. EZ Car Keyz gives you a firm price on the phone before anyone drives anywhere. We show up in a marked vehicle.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. On a 2002 Tiburon remote head key, that means a properly cut blade, a programmed transponder, and working remote functions, all tested before I leave your driveway. I've seen owners pay serious money to locksmiths who handed back a key that started the car but had a remote that only worked from two feet away, or a blade that turned but caught on the way out. We don't close the job until every function is confirmed working.

Q: My 2002 Tiburon starts fine but the lock and unlock buttons on the remote head key stopped working. Do I need a whole new key?

Not necessarily. On this generation remote head key, the transponder side and the remote transmitter side are separate functions sharing one housing. If the car starts normally, the transponder is fine. A dead or weak battery in the fob is the first thing to check. Beyond that, the transmitter board itself can fail from age, moisture, or a drop while the blade portion is still perfectly good.

Q: I found a used remote head key online for my 2002 Tiburon. Can I just have that one programmed?

Sometimes, but there's a catch. A used key means a used transponder that may already be paired to another vehicle. Some transponder chips can be reset and reprogrammed to a new car. Others can't, and you won't know which situation you're in until someone with the right equipment checks it. Buying a used key to save money can backfire if the chip is locked. A new, unprogrammed remote head key avoids that gamble entirely.

2002 Hyundai Tiburon Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy over in Midtown Ventura called me on a Tuesday afternoon. His 2002 Tiburon had been sitting in the driveway for two days. He had one key, and the blade had developed a wobble in the ignition. He could feel it catching. He was smart enough not to force it.

He'd already called the dealer. They told him to tow it in and plan for a wait because they'd need to order parts. He wasn't interested in that.

I got there and decoded the lock from the door cylinder, which still had clean wafers. Cut a fresh blade to match. The remote head fob was intact, so we kept the existing housing and just dealt with the blade side. Programmed the transponder through the OBD port in one cycle and the car started clean on the first turn.

The whole thing took about 40 minutes in his driveway. He had a working spare in his hand before I left, which was the part he really wanted anyway. One worn blade nearly turned into a multi-day dealer ordeal. Instead it was a Tuesday afternoon job in Midtown Ventura that ended before dinner.

Hyundai Tiburon Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Hyundai vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is a California BSIS licensed locksmith company, license number LCO 6792, and fully insured. The 2002 Tiburon remote head key involves both a cut blade and transponder programming, and not every locksmith carries the tooling for both sides of that job. We do. You can verify the license directly through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services.
