2007 Hyundai Tiburon
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: What exactly is a remote head key and why does the 2007 Tiburon use one?

A remote head key combines the key blade and the fob into one unit. The blade cuts into the ignition like a traditional key, but the head of the key houses the transponder chip and the remote buttons together. The vehicle's immobilizer reads the chip during startup and will not allow the engine to run if it does not recognize a paired key, even if the blade is cut perfectly.

Q: What tools do you use to program a key for the 2007 Tiburon?

For a Tiburon this age I use professional-grade immobilizer programmers and, when needed, PIN extraction tools that pull the security data directly from the diagnostic port. The 2007 is old enough that the process does not require the factory security access or credentialing that newer vehicles demand, but it still needs real equipment, not a consumer-level cloner.

Q: My Tiburon starts fine but the remote lock and unlock stopped working. Does the whole key need to be replaced?

Not necessarily. On the remote head key, the ignition transponder function and the fob function are separate from each other in practice. If the car starts, the transponder side is still paired and working. Dead fob battery is the first thing to check. The Tiburon remote head key does take a replaceable battery, and when it gets low the remote range drops off before it quits entirely, so owners sometimes miss it creeping up on them. Swap the battery first.

Q: The 2007 Tiburon is pretty old now. Can replacement keys still actually be made for it?

Yes, without any real difficulty. The age works in your favor on this one. The key system on a 2007 Tiburon does not require factory credentials, secure gateway access, or any of the newer layers that make some late-model vehicles more complicated to service. The blanks are still available, the programming process is well documented in professional tools, and a mobile locksmith with the right equipment can handle it on site in East Ventura the same day you call.

2007 Hyundai Tiburon Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already running calls in Ventura on a Saturday night when the message came in from East Ventura.

A couple had been at a karaoke spot, came out to the parking lot, and the Tiburon was just sitting there not responding to the key fob. They figured it was a dead fob battery. One of them tried holding the fob closer to the door handle. Then tried it again. Then tried it standing on one foot, probably. Still nothing.

They had already started looking up weekend tow rates before one of them searched for a locksmith and found me. I was twelve minutes out.

The Tiburon remote head key is a combined unit, blade and fob in one housing. When these stop responding it usually comes down to a few things: the fob battery gave out, the key lost its pairing to the immobilizer, or the housing took a drop and something shifted inside. This one had all the signs of a fob that had been dying slowly for a while and finally gave out that night.

I pulled the van up, got the key on the hood, and went through it. The blade was fine. The fob housing had a small crack along one edge, the kind you get when it rides loose in a pocket for months. Enough to let the internal contact shift. I had the right replacement shell stocked in a labeled drawer behind my seat, transferred the components over, verified the cut, and ran the programming through my diagnostic equipment.

First try, the doors locked and unlocked clean. Car started without a complaint.

They were back on the road before midnight. The dealer route would have meant leaving the car in that lot all weekend and starting fresh Monday morning, and still paying more than they did with me.

How do I spot a fake locksmith before I get ripped off?▼

Three things to check before anyone touches your car. First, a real business name with verifiable Google and Yelp reviews tied to that name. Scam operations run dozens of different phone numbers and business names that all route to the same call center. If you search the number and get three different "company" names, walk away. Second, ask for a firm phone quote for your specific vehicle.
