2008 Hyundai Tiburon Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over in the Avenue neighborhood in Ventura, a woman called me around 6:30 in the evening. Her toddler had spiked a fever at the pediatrician and she needed to get home. Her 2008 Hyundai Tiburon would not start in the overflow lot.
The remote head key was physically turning the ignition, but the engine would crank for a second and kill. Classic Smartra immobilizer rejection. The security light on the dash was blinking steady instead of going solid.
The Hyundai dealer was already closed for the day. I told her I was about 20 minutes out.
When I got there, I popped my Autel IM608 on the OBD-II port and pulled the PIN from the Smartra module. Her original OSLOKA-310T remote head key had a dead ID46 chip. Corrosion had gotten into the key housing and the transponder was just not transmitting anymore. I cut a new key by code using the HYN14R blade profile, programmed a fresh ID46 chip to her Smartra, and paired the 315 MHz remote.
Tested every function: transponder start, lock, unlock, panic. Walked her through what the blinking security light means so she would recognize it if a key ever failed again.
From her call to engine running was about 44 minutes. She got her kid home, gave him his medicine, and had him down by 8. The dealer would have meant waiting until morning. Sometimes the difference between a locksmith and a dealer is just timing.
