2004 Hyundai Tiburon Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call at 7:45 in the morning from a woman in Ventura, out in the Saticoy area. She worked through a staffing agency and was sitting in the lot waiting on her day's assignment. Her 2004 Hyundai Tiburon would not respond to anything. Remote buttons dead, and the key would turn the ignition but the engine cranked and quit every time. Classic immobilizer rejection. She had until 8:30 to get to a job site or she would lose the placement.
I was at the lot in about 20 minutes. First thing, I checked the key blade. The plastic housing was cracked near the bow, right where the transponder chip sits. The ID46 chip inside had shifted just enough that the ring antenna around the ignition barrel was not reading it consistently.
I decoded the lock cylinder with my HY18 Lishi, confirmed the bitting, and cut a new remote head key blank on site. Then I pulled the immobilizer PIN through OBD using the Autel, wrote the fresh ID46 chip to the car's SMARTRA unit, and programmed the 315 MHz remote side. Whole job, maybe 25 minutes hands-on.
She turned the key once, the engine caught, and she just sat there for a second looking at the clock. Made it to the site with time to spare.
The dealer up the road would have meant a tow, a wait for parts, and a missed placement she could not afford.
