2010 Lincoln MKS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was working the East Area 2 part of Santa Paula on a Tuesday afternoon when I got the call. A woman said her 2010 MKS had been sitting in her driveway since the night before. She'd replaced the fob battery herself, which was the right instinct, but the car still wouldn't respond to the door handles and was throwing a key-not-detected warning at the push-button.
She mentioned she had a spare key inside the house. That detail changed everything.
When I got there I checked the fob she'd replaced the battery in first. The CR2032 was seated fine, contacts looked clean, and testing it close to the start button confirmed the vehicle security system was actually reading it. The problem was the battery she'd pulled from the old fob before mine: she had the right size cell but it was a no-name brand running low out of the package. Swapped it for a quality CR2032 from my van and the door handles came alive again.
We still ran through the full check. Every button on the four-button fob, both door handles, the start button from normal distance, and then the emergency blade in the door cylinder just to confirm it still turned clean. Everything worked.
She asked about the spare key next. It had been sitting in a drawer for probably two years. Tested it the same way, worked fine. I told her to keep both somewhere she'd actually reach for them, not one buried in a drawer.
No programming, no diagnostic port, no drama. Just a bad budget battery and twenty minutes in the driveway.
