I got a call from a body shop off Hollister, over near Lake Los Carneros, on a 2014 MKS that had already beaten one locksmith. The story I heard was that a previous tech attempted a smart key replacement on the car, the vehicle battery dropped voltage partway through the programming sequence, and after that the car wouldn't accept any key at all. The other locksmith told the shop the body control module was bad and left.

I cleared the fault codes with my scan tool, then ran a clean programming sequence through the OBD port. The fob registered on the first attempt. Tested all five buttons, walked both doors for handle detection, confirmed push-button start, confirmed the emergency blade fit the door cylinder. Everything worked.
The owner had already been quoted a multi-day dealer turnaround. He saved a significant chunk and was back on the road the same afternoon. The body shop has called me twice since then.
