A body shop on the Calle Real corridor in Goleta called me about a 2014 Lincoln MKS that another locksmith had already touched and walked away from.
The story was familiar. Owner needed an all-keys-lost replacement. The first locksmith connected to the OBD port, started the PATS security handshake through the BCM, and the car's battery sagged mid-programming. On these Ford/Lincoln push-to-start platforms, the immobilizer logic lives in the BCM, not the PCM like the older PATS key systems. A voltage drop during that handshake puts the BCM into a security fault state. The other tech told the shop the module was fried and left.
I showed up with my IM608 and a jump pack. First thing I did was clamp the jump pack onto the battery to hold voltage steady. Then I cleared the DTCs the failed attempt left behind, including a U0140 lost communication with BCM code that was scaring everyone. Clean slate. Started the Intelligent Access programming sequence fresh.
The M3N-5WY8609 fob learned on the first try. Cut the emergency HU101 blade on site, tested all five buttons, checked both front door handles for passive entry, trunk release, push-button start. Everything responded clean.
Took about an hour and forty minutes total, most of that on diagnostics and clearing the mess. The shop had been quoted a flatbed ride to the dealer and a multi-day wait. This got done in their parking lot for a fraction of that.
