Out in Storke Ranch, a travel nurse on a 13-week assignment called me on a Monday morning. She had parked her 2016 MKS the night before, and by morning the fob was not waking the car up. Handles were dead, dash showed a key-not-detected warning, and the car would not start. She called a Lincoln dealer and they told her Friday at the earliest, possibly longer if they needed to order the fob.
She was driving herself to hospital shifts. Friday was not an option.
I was at her apartment that afternoon. The original fob had a battery that read low on the tester, so I swapped the CR2032 first just to rule it out cleanly. The car still was not seeing the fob. The fob itself had taken some damage from being in a bag with keys, and the internal antenna contact had shifted. That fob was done.
I cut a replacement blade to the vehicle, registered the new Intelligent Access fob through the OBD port, and walked every function: passive entry on both front handles, start button recognition, lock and unlock. Then I handed it back and had her run the handles herself so she knew it was solid, not just my word.
She drove to work Tuesday morning. The dealer quote and a potential tow bill stayed hypothetical.
