Got a call from a woman out in Dos Pueblos Canyon in Goleta. Her 2012 Lincoln MKS was parked outside a dance studio, daughter's recital was two hours away, costumes locked in the back seat, and neither smart key would wake the car up. Door handles, trunk button, push to start, nothing. She tried the Lincoln Way app on her phone and that was no help either because the Bluetooth connection kept dropping.
Dealer told her next day, earliest. She found me.
I was about 20 minutes out. Once I got there, I used the emergency key blade hidden in the fob housing to pop the driver door manually. Plugged my Autel IM608 into the OBD-II port under the dash. Pulled up the RFA module and ran security access. Her M3N5WY8406 fob had a completely flat CR2032, but the real issue was the proximity system had dropped the key's registration. Battery alone would not have fixed it.
Swapped in a fresh CR2032, reseated the battery clip so it had solid contact, then reprogrammed the fob through the PATS security access sequence. Tested every door handle for touch-to-unlock, tested touch-to-lock on the front handles, ran the trunk release, and confirmed push-button start from both the driver seat and the passenger side.
Under 50 minutes, call to engine running. She still had time to iron a costume in the studio lobby. The dealer would have had her renting a car overnight for a job that took less than an hour on site.
