A yoga instructor in Oxnard, over in the Rice Avenue corridor, called me at 5:15 in the morning. She had one key to her 2018 CX-3, bought the car used, always meant to get a spare. That morning the plastic shell finally cracked at the blade pivot and the emergency key blade snapped clean off when she tried the door lock. Key head in one hand, blade stuck in the cylinder. The circuit board inside the cracked housing was intact, which was the lucky part. I pulled the broken blade from the lock cylinder with my Lishi MAZ24 pick, read the transponder data off her original PCF7953P chip with my VVDI Key Tool, and moved everything into a new WAZSKE13D01 shell with a fresh cut blade. No all-keys-lost procedure needed because her original board, part number KDY3-67-5DY, was still talking to the car.
I tested push-button start, both front door handles for proximity unlock, and all three remote buttons from 20 feet. Everything responded clean.
She watched the whole thing from the curb holding a smoothie. When the car started on the first press she just nodded, grabbed her mat, and walked inside.
She made her 6am class. If your key cracks but you still have the broken pieces, bring them. That one detail can save you real money and time.
