Saturday night at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, a traveling nurse locked her only smart key in her 2021 CX-3. Through the window: WAZSKE11D01 sitting on the driver's seat, doors locked, hazards still blinking from when she hit the panic button trying to find it.

The CX-3 runs the newer KDY3 immobilizer, so it needs both keys programmed in one session before either works. First key registered, mandatory 15-second security delay, second key registered. Then the part people forget: cycling the ignition to clear the old key data from memory.
While testing the door locks, she mentioned the hospital parking garage has terrible cell signal. That's why she couldn't get an Uber when her key went missing. She'd walked all the way to the ER entrance just to make phone calls.
